Elizabeth Cotter

SJHA
Director of Advancement
Staten Island, NY

Elizabeth Cotter’s background is in fund raising for Catholic schools and religious orders. She has experience building development teams from the ground up. She is also versed in utilizing creative communication plans that re-connect lapsed donors to organizations’ missions. Additionally, she has worked on creating unique emerging media strategies for a variety of non-profits. Elizabeth has worked on capital campaigns, campaigns driven solely through social media and event fundraisers on both large and intimate scales. She has successfully built strong relationships with both major donors and board members.

Elizabeth’s non-profit experience began as the Director of Advancement at St. Joseph Hill Academy on Staten Island. She executed a strategic plan to initiate the development office. From Alumnae Association by-laws to board development, her intimate relationships with leadership have helped the school develop its vision. Through her work on cause videos and emerging market development, Elizabeth helped Hill develop strong relationships with graduates, current families and the greater community. In the immediate aftermath of Super Storm Sandy, her efforts culminated in raising $120,000 in two weeks.

Elizabeth also has experience working with the Daughters of Divine Charity as their Assistant Director of Development. Her expertise in social media and direct mail integration was instrumental in helping to reach the Sisters’ Capital Campaign goal for their new convent of $2,000,000.

A member of the National Catholic Development Conference since 2008, Elizabeth has attended several annual conferences and many seminars for the Greater New York chapter.  Eager to delve deeper into the Catholic fund raising segment of the third sector, she was humbled when asked to serve as a member of the planning committee for the 2013 conference in Grapevine, Texas.

Elizabeth graduated Magna Cum Laude from New York University with a BS in Media, Culture and Communications. She anticipates completing her Masters in Philanthropy from New York University in 2015. She resides in Staten Island, NY, and is looking forward to her wedding in July with her fiancé Mike.
